Our Story
Sapphic” refers to a woman-aligned person attracted to women or woman-aligned gender/gender identities” (Source: LGBTQIA+ Wiki)
We use sapphic when discussing who the app is for to emphasize that Cherry FLFM will always be trans and non-binary inclusive.
Prioritizing the wants and needs of the sapphics, Cherry FLFM strives to fight loneliness, foster connection, and make it easier to find love, friendship, and more.
Our vision is to be the go-to relationship platform for sapphics, combating loneliness, fostering connection, and simplifying finding meaningful relationships.
Our core values—Safety, Diversity, Inclusivity, Transparency, Innovation, and Fun—guide everything we do, from brainstorming features to setting community guidelines. Click here to learn more!
The Story of Cherry FLFM
Written by Julia Crystal, Founder and CEO
I founded Cherry FLFM to make it easier for sapphics to find friendship and love. Motivated by my experiences with online dating and friending, I created Cherry FLFM to address the limitations (e.g., lack of safety and moderation, filtering, accessibility) and narrow focus of traditional apps. Most dating apps have poor filters, which make it difficult to find someone you are compatible with; in my own experience, even though I indicated that I am a lesbian, these apps still showed me cis men and heterosexual women. On other apps, I had to decide whether to look for a romantic partner or friends and couldn’t filter to find queer friends. It became evident that dating and friendship apps were spaces where the queer community was often not considered or prioritized and where the wants and needs of our community frequently fell through the cracks.
After graduating from university, I realized how difficult it was to meet new people and form meaningful relationships. I have friends in different stages of life, but we all have the same question: How can I meet new people and make new connections? Whether single and looking for a partner or in a romantic relationship and looking for queer friends, we all wish the current apps were better. With so few sapphic spaces and how nerve-wracking it can be to approach someone in person, we need a better way for sapphics to connect online. I knew I could create a relationship platform that provided a diverse, inclusive, and safe space for sapphics to find companionship and community, and that is Cherry FLFM.

With so few queer spaces, no lesbian bars in Canada, and it being nerve-wracking to approach people in person, there seemed to be a need for a better way for queer people to connect online. I knew I could create a “relationship platform” that provided a diverse, inclusive, and safe space for queer women and non-binary people to find companionship and community, and that is Cherry FLFM.
